1. The Morrigan

Synopsis: Follows an archaeologist who travels to Ireland to uncover a long-dead tomb. A threat is released and she will have to fight to keep her teenage daughter from falling under the control of The Morrigan, a vengeful “Pagan War Goddess.”
Quick Thoughts: The Morrigan is originally a goddess of war, fate, and death from Irish Gaelic mythology. On the surface, this could seem like a fun, thrilling Irish Mummy movie, but the trailer and the poster especially just make it seem like another generic CGI horror movie. And whose idea was it to place an AI-generated-looking CGI Morrigan on the poster and think it was a good idea?
People online say that the film is trying to portray the Morrigan myth and folklore in an evil, predictable way, especially with the demonic possession trope in the trailer.
I had some hopes when I read the synopsis for an Irish Mummy movie, but I think I’ll be skipping this one. The film is coming to VOD on February 3rd.

1. Starman

Synopsis: Legendary NASA robotics engineer and best-selling science fiction author, Gentry Lee, has spent a lifetime seeking an answer to the ultimate cosmic question: Are we alone in the universe? At age 82 he has come to a revelatory conclusion.
Quick Thoughts: I love myself a nice space documentary. Starman is set for a limited theatrical run in February, with a VOD release following in March 2026.
2. Solo Mio

Synopsis: Left heartbroken in Rome after a wedding disaster, a stranded groom finds his ruined honeymoon transformed by a determined local and a few meddling travelers-proving that sometimes heartbreak is only the beginning.
Quick Thoughts: Not something I would rush out to see, but Solo Mio looks like a chill, feel-good romantic comedy that stars Kevin Smith and takes place in Rome, Italy. I think it would be a safe bet for a date movie night this Valentine’s Day season. Good cast, good locations, probably some feel-good inspirational quotes and moments.
3. Dracula

Synopsis: When a 15th-century prince denounces God after the loss of his wife he inherits an eternal curse: he becomes Dracula. Condemned to wander the centuries, he defies fate and death, guided by a single hope – to be reunited with his lost love.
Quick Thoughts: The classic monster tales have been appearing back on the big screen more often over the past couple of years. Last year we had Nosferatu and Frankenstein. This year we’re getting Dracula, and later in April Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is hitting theaters as well, with Robert Eggers’ Werwulf scheduled for release later in the year.
Even though this movie is directed by Luc Besson (Léon: The Professional, The Fifth Element, Lucy), it doesn’t seem to have the quality of the recent monster movie adaptations I just mentioned. It does star Christoph Waltz as one of the main characters, but aside from that it just looks overbloated and… meh.
It has the potential to have some cool scenes and battles, and a fresh take for fans of the source material, but I think I’ll be skipping this one. Can’t wait for The Mummy, though.
4. Queen of Chess

Synopsis: Hungarian chess prodigy Judit Polgár challenges champion Garry Kasparov and her controlling father over 15 years, breaking gender barriers to become the greatest female player ever and one of history’s finest.
Quick Thoughts: I never watched The Queen’s Gambit, but I imagine fans of the show and fans of chess would enjoy this documentary film releasing on Netflix on February 6.
5. Whistle

Synopsis: A misfit group of unwitting high school students stumble upon a cursed object, an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. They discover that blowing the whistle and the terrifying sound it emits will summon their future deaths to hunt them down.
Quick Thoughts: This one is from the director of The Nun. I don’t think it will be anything too spectacular or suspenseful, but some fun may be had with it under the right conditions. Smile, Scream, Whistle… what’s next? Interestingly enough, Scream 7 is also releasing later this February, so you can have yourself a double feature of whistles and screams in one night if you’re up for it.
The most entertaining thing about this movie, I think, are some of the taglines on the posters, like “DON’T BLOW IT.” And Nick Frost has a part in the movie, which is pretty cool, but other than that I think I’ll be skipping this one.
6. My Father’s Shadow

Synopsis: Two young brothers explore Lagos with their estranged father during the 1993 Nigerian election crisis, witnessing both the city’s magnitude and their father’s daily struggles as political unrest threatens their journey home.
Quick Thoughts: This looks like a very well-shot and well-acted film, and I can’t say that I’ve ever seen a Nigerian movie before. I would check this out to immerse myself in a different environment and learn more about the culture and history of a part of the world I don’t knowmuch about.
7. The President’s Cake

Synopsis: In 1990s Iraq, 9-year-old Lamia must bake the President’s birthday cake. She scrambles to find ingredients for this compulsory task while facing potential punishment if she fails.
Quick Thoughts: This one caught my eye and made the list for the same reason the previous film did. I cannot say I have ever seen an Iraqi movie before, and this looks like a well-shot and well-acted film set in a country I don’t know much about. Something new and different.

1. Gale: Yellow Brick Road

Synopsis: Dorothy, now an elderly woman haunted by her past, tries to warn her granddaughter Emily before dark forces pull her into Oz, a once familiar land now twisted by horrors.
Quick Thoughts: I didn’t expect to come across a horror film that takes place in the Wizard of Oz universe, but it’s a complete film releasing this February. It does give off fan fiction vibes as it is a very low-budget film. Don’t think I’ll run out to see this one, but it’ll definitely be interesting to hear what people and critics say when this releases. Would probably check out a few clips on YouTube when they’re available.

1. GOAT

Synopsis: A small goat with big dreams gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot to join the pros and play roarball, a high-intensity, co-ed, full-contact sport dominated by the fastest, fiercest animals in the world.
Quick Thoughts: My buddies and I have been seeing too many horror and thriller movies in theaters lately, and I think seeing this will be a good change of pace for us. Something light, and fun, and colorful, and possibly inspirational. An animated film brought to you by the studio that made the Spider-Verse animated films. Haven’t seen an animated film on the big screen in quite a while, and this has the potential to be a fun time for families, basketball fans, or moviegoers like myself who want a change of pace from the horror movies.
2. Crime 101

Synopsis: An elusive thief, eyeing his final score, encounters a disillusioned insurance broker at her own crossroads. As their paths intertwine, a relentless detective trails them hoping to thwart the multi-million dollar heist they are planning.
Quick Thoughts: Looks like your typical crime thriller action movie from like 2011, and honestly, I don’t mind. Looks decent with a good cast, and possibly entertaining performances and set pieces, and it has a bit of that Michael Mann Los Angeles atmosphere. Don’t think I’ll rush out to see this, but wouldn’t mind going to see it on the big screen with my dad or my buddies if it came to it.
3. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die

Synopsis: A “Man From the Future” arrives at a diner in Los Angeles where he must recruit the precise combination of disgruntled patrons to join him on a one-night quest to save the world from the terminal threat of a rogue artificial intelligence.
Quick Thoughts: Can’t deny that Gore Verbinski does have a varied portfolio of films. From The Ring, the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, to Rango, The Lone Ranger, A Cure for Wellness, and now Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. He’s sometimes a hit or miss, but a rated R action comedy movie about AI, the dangers of technology, and some time travel elements could be a fun time. The themes seem relevant to modern times, maybe a little too on the nose from what I saw in the trailer.
I don’t think I’ll rush out to see this one, but I am interested in what people will say when it comes out. If it’s the only showing my buddies and I can make it to on a Tuesday night, I think it’d be fun, and not something we’d cancel our weekly movie night to wait for next week’s release, which sometimes happens.
4. Wuthering Heights

Synopsis: A passionate and tumultuous love story set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire moors, exploring the intense and destructive relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw.
Quick Thoughts: All the shawties are probably gonna wanna see this flicky this coming Valentines Day. So your shawty might want to see this movie, and you might have to go my brotha, but don’t worry it may be a well-made, well acted, and well shot film.
It’s either going to be a mediocre snooze fest or become a classic romance drama. Could swing either way honestly. But one thing is certain: Margot Robbie is majestic
5. The Mortuary Assistant

Synopsis: Follows Rebecca Owens, a mortuary science graduate who takes a night job at River Fields Mortuary. What begins as a routine job soon turns sinister as she faces terrifying supernatural forces.
Quick Thoughts: Based on a psychological horror video game of the same title, Mortuary Assistant seems like a fun adaptation of the source material it’s based on. I never played the game, but I’ve come across it a few times when I’ve scrolled on Steam. It’s more of a low-budget independent horror film that will stream on Shudder later in March, but it’s getting a limited nationwide theatrical run first starting February 13th.
Don’t think I’ll rush out to cinemas to see this one, but I’ve been meaning to check out Shudder and explore some of the independent horror flicks on there, and this would be on my watchlist on that platform. I mean, look at that creepy bald headed ass monster.
6. Cold Storage

Synopsis: When a highly dangerous fungus escapes from a secret laboratory, a former bioterrorism agent is called back into action. Alongside two young employees, he must confront an invisible and out-of-control threat.
Quick Thoughts: I see Stranger Things fans being the most enthusiastic about this movie due to the lead role actor Joe Keery. To me, it kind of seems like a Nickelodeon movie, and there is even green slime in the trailer. Liam Neeson also stars in the film but I think it’ll be a pass for me. Maybe for younger teens who want to go to the movies with their friends this could be a fun time.
7. Mimics

Synopsis: Down-on-his-luck impressionist Sam Reinhold makes a pact with Fergus-a wicked, strings-attached puppet-that holds the promise to propel Sam to stardom, unleashing a nightmare that threatens the safety of those he holds dear.
Quick Thoughts: This seems like a good, decently written, low-budget movie that’s actually getting a wide nationwide theatrical release. As someone interested in stand-up comedy, this is something I’d like to check out. And the doll’s voice kind of has a Chucky vibe, and if the movie is well written, it could have some good moments and memorable lines, with the potential to become a cult classic. I’m interested to see how this one will do.
8. Nirvana: The Band – the Show – the Movie

Synopsis: When their plan to book a show at the Rivoli goes horribly wrong, Matt and Jay accidentally travel back to the year 2008.
Quick Thoughts: Wow, I guess I’m getting old and the times are really changing if a trailer about a time travel movie set in 2008 is making me feel nostalgic about that year. I mean, just look at this shot in the trailer:

That is pretty much how the world looked when I was nine years old from what I remember.
I didn’t know this, but after looking this movie up, I discovered that Nirvana the Band the Show is originally a Canadian mockumentary sitcom that started as a web series from 2007 to 2009, and then became a television series running from 2017 to2018. Still don’t know too much about the original show, but this seems like a fun time-travel movie.

1. Psycho Killer

Synopsis: A police officer tracks a killer after her husband, a highway patrolman, becomes one of his victims.
Quick Thoughts: From Andrew Kevin Walker, the screenplay writer of Se7en, 8MM, and The Killer, comes a new film about a sadistic and satanic killer, a subject matter he’s had experience bringing successfully to the screen in the past. I’m not gonna lie, the trailer does look intriguing and contains some solid horror imagery. Interesting to see how this film will go up against Scream 7. I guess we got ourselves a faceoff between Ghost Face and Psycho Killer.
2. How To Make a Killing

Synopsis: Disowned at birth by his obscenely wealthy family, blue-collar Becket Redfellow will stop at nothing to reclaim his inheritance, no matter how many relatives stand in his way.
Quick Thoughts: Speaking of 2008 earlier, this movie gives off the vibe like it was made that year. What was once the average look of a mid-2000s movie is now an artistic visual choice brought by A24. Kind of cool, kind of feeling old that mid-2000s movies are now becoming a nostalgic look for films, which feels even more apparent now in 2026 when you look back at movies from that decade.
3. The Dreadful

Synopsis: The Dreadful follows Anne and her mother-in-law Morwen who live a solitary, harsh life on the outskirts of society – but when a man from their past returns, he will set off a sequence of events that become a turning point for Anne.
4. Baz Luhrmann’s EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert

Synopsis: Follows Elvis Presley, featuring never-before-seen footage and recordings.
Quick Thoughts: Big Elvis Presley fan here ever since I was a kid, maybe one of my favorite singers, and his music introduced me to the world of rock ’n’ roll, blues, and country. This is the closest thing I’ll be able to see to an Elvis concert, and I think it’d be nice to take my mom to see it together with.

1. The Bluff

Synopsis: A Caribbean woman gets her secret past revealed when her island is invaded by vicious buccaneers.
Quick Thoughts: Haven’t had a Caribbean pirate movie in quite some time, and I guess Amazon Prime Video is here to fill that void. Honestly looks like one of those generic straight-to-Prime action movies, but I think Karl Urban will probably make the movie more entertaining.

1. Scream 7

Synopsis: When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target.
Quick Thoughts: The first Scream is probably the first slasher that I have ever seen, and my favorite too in the genre. Haven’t really been keeping up with this new Trilogy, remeber seeing the 2022 one and barely recall any of it. Just remember being disappointed. Didn’t see the 2023 NYC follow up , which I’ll probably check out in the next couple weeks leading up to this one.
Hopes aren’t too high for this one, but what got my attention is that this entry is directed by Kevin Williamson, the creator and screenwriter of Scream 1, 2, and 4, arguably the top three entries in the series. He’s worked alongside Wes Craven during the making of them, and this is his first time directing a movie in this series. The promotional material highlights this fact too, and he seems excited to be part of the project, which gives some hope for some good Ghostface action to close out this February
